Dr Sam Hibbitts
Dr Sam Hibbitts is a Senior Lecturer within the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Research Team at Cardiff University School of Medicine.
Sam originally trained as a molecular geneticist at Sussex University and then qualified as a virologist with a PhD in Human Immunodeficiency Virus from University College of London. Sams’ primary research is focused on the effects of the HPV vaccination programme within the Welsh population. HPV is the underlying cause of cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine is anticipated to reduce 70-75% of cervical cancers in women who are vaccinated before contact with the virus. She aims to monitor changes in HPV infection and remaining cervical disease following the introduction of the HPV vaccine. Sam has presented findings from the Baseline HPV study at several conferences throughout the UK.
