Michelle set to nail Macchu Picchu

A Cardiff businesswoman is preparing for a ten-day trek through one of Peru’s most famous landmarks in support of Cancer Research Wales.

Michelle Collingwood will tackle the 550-year-old Inca citadel of Macchu Picchu in May, with the aim of raising £4,000 for Wales’s indigenous cancer charity.

Nail technician Michelle, who owns Pinkeys nail bar in Whitchurch Village, has worked with Cancer Research Wales for several years and offered her beauty services at numerous fundraising events.

Michelle said: “Cancer Research Wales has really helped to grow my business by letting me get involved with their fundraising events, and I’m now looking to give something back.

“I’m fascinated by South America and I’ve always wanted to visit, so I thought why not go and raise money for a great cause at the same time?”

Before setting off on her Peruvian trek, Michelle is hosting a ‘Ladies Night’ for Cancer Research Wales at Miss Jones Bar & Grill, Whitchurch, on Monday 3rd March.

Speaking about the event, Michelle commented: “I’m really looking forward to the Ladies Night – it will be a lot of fun, as well as raising money for a very important charity.”

The event will feature a champagne reception, canapés, beauty treatments, a buffet, goodie bags, a soul-reggae disco and stalls selling everything from handbags to skincare.

The highlight of the evening will be a charity auction, with prizes such as a home-cooked meal from a professional chef, £600 worth of hair extensions and a pair of football boots signed by Whitchurch’s very own superstar striker Gareth Bale.  Anyone extra-keen to get their hands on the local legend’s football boots can also text their bid to 07793 027 992.

Fundraising Manger Laura Hooper said: “We are so grateful to Michelle for her ongoing support; she has been a wonderful supporter of ours for many years and we hope she really enjoys her overseas trek.

“Cancer affects so many people, and all the money and awareness which Michelle raises will contribute to our pioneering research projects right here in Wales and support our mission to try and reduce the impact of this terrible disease.”

Tickets for Michelle’s ‘Ladies Night’ event are still available, priced at £25. For more information, please call 02920 617568 or email pinkeys@hotmail.co.uk.

Cancer Research Wales would be grateful to anyone who would like to sponsor Michelle’s Macchu Picchu trek. Donations can be made at www.justgiving.com/michellecollingwood or by texting “PERU” followed by the amount you wish to donate to 70070.

All the money Michelle raises will stay in Wales to help Cancer Research Wales fund its pioneering research projects at sites such as the Velindre Centre, where the charity has its headquarters.
